Confinement et calendrier perturbé oblige, Vitalic en a profité pour se plonger dans ses synthétiseurs et autres boîtes à rythmes, histoire d’annoncer un cinquième album, « DISSIDÆNCE », dont le titre est déjà tout un programme. Un disque, que le principal intéressé décrit comme un retour aux sources de son identité sonore, en forme de clin d’œil revisité à l’énergie rock de ses premiers albums et qui se déclinera en deux volumes : « C’est avant tout une histoire de timing. En le composant je me suis rendu compte que huit titres me semblaient trop peu pour un album et seize vraiment trop et du coup j’ai décidé de couper le tout en deux ! Mais la raison essentielle est que j’avais l’impression de n’avoir pas tout dit sur le premier volume, comme une sensation d’inachevé. »
Les deux épisodes de « DISSIDÆNCE », qui naviguent entre pop et hardcore, sueur et tendresse, mélancolie et colère, sont une sorte de condensé de ce que le producteur, vingt ans de carrière au compteur, sait faire le mieux, de la tornade crasse à se dévisser la tête sur le dancefloor à la pop-song amoureuse et synthétique pour s’évader. Avec ses deux volumes qui n'en forment qu'un au final, « DISSIDÆNCE », dont suinte entre les beats énervés et les séquenceurs en cavale la colère sociale et politique face à la pandémie actuelle, Vitalic puise dans son passé son goût pour les synthés qui déraillent, les nappes qui filent de travers, les refrains entêtants et les voix distordues, les rythmes lourds en forme de marathon sur le dancefloor, mais exprime surtout son obsession passionnelle pour la dance-music et le besoin vital de danser. « DISSIDÆNCE » peut ainsi s’écouter à la fois comme un hymne à la fête et un voyage dans un temps qui aujourd’hui n’existe plus, mais qui, et cet album en est la preuve éclatante, est appelé à revivre de tous ses feux, BPM en cavale et rage intacte à l’appui, parce que, plus que jamais, « danser = vivre ».

Locked down and furloughed, Vitalic went back to his synths and beatboxes, resulting in his fifth album "DISSIDÆNCE" - the title of which is a whole story in itself - destined to be released in two volumes. He describes it as a return to the roots of his sonic identity, a kind of reinterpretation of the rock energy of his early albums. "More than anything, it was a question of timing. While composing I realised that eight tracks felt like too little for an album, and sixteen was really over the top, so I decided to cut the whole thing in half! The main reason though is that I felt I hadn't been able to express everything I wanted to on the first volume - like something had been left unfinished."
The two episodes of "DISSIDÆNCE" - navigating between pop and hardcore, sweat and tenderness, melancholia and anger - are a sort of boiling down of what the artist knows how to do best, after twenty years of creating, from filthy whirlwinds that make your mind explode on the dancefloor to bubble gum pop songs about love that transport us elsewhere. On these two volumes of "DISSIDÆNCE" that now form one, the powerful beats and galloping sequencers translate the social and political anger of the global pandemic, and Vitalic looks into the past, channelling his love for off-kilter synth sounds, skew-whiff pads, heady refrains, distorted vocals and heavy beats. Above all, this dancefloor marathon expresses his obsessional passion for dance music and the primal need to dance. "DISSIDÆNCE" should be taken as both a celebration of celebration and a journey back in time to an era that maybe does not exist right now, but which will - and this album is the dazzling proof - be reborn from its ashes to burn bright once more, its BPM let loose and rage still blazing, because more than ever, to dance is to live.
