artist : Julian Casablancas

Fils de John Casablancas, fondateur de l'agence de mannequin Elite, Julian Fernando Casablancas (né le 23 août 1978 à New York) est élevé par sa mère (mannequin danoise) et son compagnon le peintre Sam Adoquei. Pensionnaire à l'institut Le Rosey en Suisse, Casablancas y rencontre Albert Hammond, Jr. avec qui il cohabite à leur retour à New York. C'est en 1999 qu'il forme The Strokes avec son ami d'enfance Nikola Fraiture et deux camarades d'études, Fabrizio Moretti et Nick Valensi. A la publication de Is This It en 2001, le quintette est considéré comme le symbole du renouveau du rock'n'roll. Deux autres albums suivent : Room on Fire en 2003 et First Impressions on Earth en 2006.

Marié depuis février 2005, Julian Casablancas a mis un terme à son addiction à l'alcool et aux drogues pour se concentrer sur le groupe et l'ouverture d'une carrière solo. En 2008, il enregistre « My Drive Thru » avec Santigold et Pharrell Williams pour une publicité Converse. En octobre 2009 paraît son premier album Phrazes for the Young, produit par Jason Lader, avec le single « 11th Dimension ». Le disque connait un réel succès commercial et critique à sa sortie. Toujours aussi éclectique, Julian Casablancas participe en 2013 à l'album Random Access Memories de Daft Punk où il apparait sur le titre « Instant Crush ».

Toujours en 2013, il s'associe au groupe The Voidz avec lequel il enregistre l'album Tyranny qui sort en septembre 2014 aux Etats-Unis (octobre en Europe) en tant que Julian Casablancas + the Voidz.
