The Bongo Hop

Before he became a musician, it seems like The Bongo Hop aka Etienne Sevet had several lives, which generally implied traveling, and somehow a sense of getting lost : as a journalist he directed documentaries ("La Voz" on salsa singer Hector Lavoe, and "Buscando a Abelardo" on Barranquilla's champeta godfather Abelardo Carbono), wrote pieces for french magazines (So Foot, World Sound), deejayed at his Republica Calicuta concert series in Cali, released a compilation (El mundo maravilloso de Abelardo carbono on spanish Vampisoul rec)...He also taught political science at the Javeriana University Cali and, upon his return to Europe, even earned a masters degree in Urbanism, initiating and participating in a number of grassroots urbanism and experimental architecture projects (Osthang projekt, with Berlin-based Raumlabor collective among others) ... His apetite for discovery brought him back to his first love, music. So, at age 34, he decided to learn the trumpet, and started composing soon after. His first two albums, Satingarona pt 1 and pt 2, came out as a series. It embodies his transatlantic vision, that of a traveler and soundscapist, lost somewhere between the meandres of rios Satinga (Co) and Garonne (Fr), and tells a lot about his genre bending approach.
